LED & Glass Neon
What is LED neon?
LED neon signs use closely spaced light-emitting diodes inside flexible silicone tubing to create a smooth, continuous glow. LED neon is lightweight, durable, energy-efficient, and well suited to detailed shapes and custom designs.
What is traditional glass neon?
Traditional glass neon is made from hand-shaped glass tubes filled with neon or other gases. It delivers the bright, unmistakable glow and character associated with classic neon signage. Glass neon is more fragile than LED neon and requires extra care when handling and installing.
Backing Options
Depending on the sign, HAPPYNEON offers acrylic, Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP), and metal-frame backing. A suitable backing keeps the design supported and makes the sign easier to mount, hang, or display.
LED neon backing
LED neon signs are normally mounted on acrylic. Available shapes and finishes include:
- Rectangle backing: the standard full rectangular panel.
- Transparent acrylic cut to shape: follows the outline of the design and is our recommended option for a cleaner, lighter appearance.
- White acrylic cut to shape: gives the design a brighter, more defined background.
- Black acrylic cut to shape: creates a stronger contrast around the neon.
- Acrylic base: allows suitable designs to stand on a flat surface.

Traditional glass neon backing
Traditional glass neon can be supplied with a retro metal frame, transparent acrylic, or a high-quality white or black ACP backing.
- Metal frame: our most popular traditional option, with an authentic industrial appearance.
- Transparent acrylic: a clean, minimal support that keeps attention on the glass tubing.
- White or black ACP: a strong, premium panel backing for a more substantial finished sign.
Size & Dimensions
Which sizes are available?
Standard size options are 50 cm, 70 cm, and 90 cm. Some LED neon designs are also available in 120 cm. If you need a larger size, please contact us to confirm what is possible for your design.
What does “longest side” mean?
The selected size refers to the longest side of the finished sign, not both dimensions.
- For a horizontal design, the longest side is its width.
- For a vertical design, the longest side is its height.
- The other dimension is calculated proportionally from the original design.
Will a large sign be made in sections?
Signs wider than approximately 110 cm may be divided into multiple sections. This makes the sign stronger and easier to transport. Once installed, the joins are designed to be barely visible.
Colors & RGB
Which LED neon colors are available?
LED neon signs are available in 10 single-color options. The exact color may appear slightly different depending on screen settings, room lighting, and the surrounding wall color.
Can an LED neon sign change color?
Yes. Select the multi-color RGB option for compatible LED neon designs. The included remote lets you choose from more than seven colors, with one color displayed at a time.
Which traditional glass neon colors are available?
Traditional glass neon is available in nine colors: red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, ice blue, purple, and white.
Features & Custom Finishes
Can my neon sign stand on a table or counter?
Yes, suitable LED neon designs can be made with a display stand instead of being mounted or hung.
- Acrylic box stand: two clear acrylic panels are secured together so the neon appears inside a transparent box.
- Acrylic base stand: a stable base runs along the bottom of the sign.
Can I adjust the brightness?
Yes. We recommend adding a dimmer so you can adjust the brightness of your neon sign. Depending on the sign type, size, and design, you may receive a touch dimmer or a dimmer with remote control.
The remote control for an LED neon dimmer uses a 12V 27A alkaline battery. A glass-neon dimmer remote uses a 12V 23A alkaline battery.
Do you make blinking or flickering signs?
No. We do not currently offer blinking or flickering neon signs.
Can a neon sign be used outdoors?
Standard LED and glass neon signs are made for indoor use. They may be used briefly at outdoor events in fair, dry weather, but they should not be exposed to rain, moisture, extreme heat, or extreme cold.
Outdoor-compatible construction is available for selected LED neon signs only. The light can be made water-resistant, but it is not suitable for underwater use. The power supply is not waterproof and must remain indoors or in a properly sheltered location.
Can detailed artwork be engraved?
Yes. When a design contains details that are too fine to reproduce in neon at the selected size, those elements may be engraved into the acrylic backing. Engraved details do not emit light, but they can catch the glow from nearby neon and help preserve a more intricate design without making the sign unnecessarily large.
Can detailed artwork be UV printed?
Yes. Full-color artwork and fine details can be UV printed directly onto the acrylic backing, with neon added to the parts of the design that should glow. This is useful when the complete artwork cannot be reproduced with neon outlines alone. Please contact us to discuss whether engraving or UV printing is best for your design.
Power, Cables & Plugs
How is the sign powered?
Standard neon signs plug into a power outlet.
- LED neon signs include a plug suitable for the destination country.
- Traditional glass neon signs include a US plug and, for destinations outside the United States, a suitable adapter.
- Small LED neon signs may be compatible with a battery pack or USB power. Please contact us to confirm whether these options are suitable for your design.
How long is the power cable?
- LED neon signs include a 2 m (78 in) clear cable by default.
- Traditional glass neon signs include a 1.8 m (6 ft) black cable by default.
If you need a longer cable, contact us before ordering and we can advise on an upgrade.
Lifetime & Care
How long will a neon sign last?
Both LED and traditional glass neon signs can last for many years. Their lifespan depends on usage, installation, and environmental conditions. As a general guide, both types commonly provide around 3–5 years of use.
To help your sign last longer, install it correctly, keep standard indoor signs dry, avoid extreme temperatures, and switch it off when it is not needed.
Installation
How do I install an LED neon sign?
Depending on the design and backing, an LED neon sign can be installed in several ways:
- Wall mounted: the parcel includes a screw set selected for your sign.
- Hung from the ceiling: tell us before production so we can pre-drill the acrylic and provide suitable hanging wire.
- Applied with clear 3M strips: this may be suitable for small signs measuring 50 cm or less. Always confirm that the wall surface and strips can safely support the sign.
- Displayed on a stand: available for compatible designs that cannot be mounted or hung.
How do I install a traditional glass neon sign?
Traditional glass neon signs include a chain for hanging. Handle the glass tubing carefully and follow the installation instructions supplied with your sign.
